Equipment

Equipment is often the biggest barrier to getting girls on the trail. Backpacking gear can be costly — but it’s also one of the most essential parts of any successful trip.

Councils, interest groups, and individual troops across California can all benefit from backpacking equipment donations. If you have gear to give, please reach out directly to one of our member groups or your local Girl Scout council.

High-need items often include:

  • Backpacks sized for girls ages 9–18

  • Group backpacking tents

  • Sleeping pads

  • Sleeping bags

  • Bear canisters

  • Backpacking stoves

  • Water purifiers

Money

Monetary gifts may be made to our national organization, Girl Scouts of the USA, or directly to your local council. Donations made to the national organization can be designated for outdoor programming; councils may vary.

If you have a transformative gift that you would like directed specifically toward backpacking or outdoor programming, we encourage you to connect with your local council. Local councils deliver the Girl Scout experience directly to girls and can best advise whether your contribution can be used as you intend.

CAGS Backpackers believes that access to equipment remains the greatest barrier for many girls eager to explore the wilderness. If your priority is ensuring your gift directly supports backpacking programs, equipment donations are the most effective way to make an immediate impact. You are welcome to contact any of our member groups or use our contact form for guidance on suggested equipment and where your donation can do the most good.
