Sespe River Trail

Piedra Blanca Trailhead to Bear Creek Camp

Backpacking equipment in a red dirt campsite surrounded by brush and a few trees.

Bear Creek Camp sits on a spacious sandbar shaded by cottonwoods, with plenty of spots for swimming and wading. The trail follows a mostly flat route along a year-round creek through a beautiful canyon. Expect some rock-hopping at the water crossings, which can become challenging after heavy rains.

Willet Hot Springs (9.5 miles from the trailhead) is often considered an even better destination, thanks to its natural hot springs. Be aware that just beyond Bear Creek Camp there is a more substantial stream crossing, which can be challenging in early spring.

Water Availability: Check Hike Los Padres for current conditions and make a contingency plan.
